The word legend comes from the Latin adjective legenda meaning "for reading, to be read". This originally referred only to written stories not to traditional stories transmitted verbally from generation to generation. This restriction evolved in the 15th century to refer to traditional stories told from generation to generation as well.

Today, a 'legend' can also be a person or achievement worthy
of inspiring such a story; anyone or anything whose fame promises to be enduring. Thus, we speak of the legendary accomplishments of a major league baseball star or the 'legendary' voice of a famous singer.

Harley-Davidson, with its rich history - its epic rider stories - its tale of great accomplishments - its success, has most certainly earned the title of 'legendary'. We could think of no greater, more meaningful title for our new newspaper than "The Legend".

The majesty and strength of the iconic symbol of freedom - a soaring eagle hovering above this great land we call home - perfectly portrays the enduring quality of a 'legend'. An eagle that soars over the acres of land and roadways and who flies the endless sky that has seen the history of this great nation unravel beneath it.

So, we proudly bring to you "The Legend of Appalachian Harley-Davidson" - a chronicle of the dream we've all embraced. We hope you enjoy reading through all
of its pages and thank you for being apart of what we consider the greatest legend of all time - the Harley-Davidson way of life!
